Going Green, and White - Camaro Models Show Their Stripes
by Doug Breithaupt

1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 - Johnny Lightning

1969 Chevrolet Camaro - Jada

One example means nothing. Two examples are a curiosity. Three examples may represent a theme but four examples are a real trend. What is it with green Camaro models with white racing stripes? Perhaps it all started with the green Heavy Chevy from Hot Wheel's Spoilers series of 1970. That green Camaro with white skunk stripes looked cool (unfortunately, my example is blue and white but Rob Gras kindly provided the image to the right). I don't know what made this color combination connect for the Camaro but I like it.

In 1998, Matchbox produced a fine casting of a '71 Camaro. The original color was green with white stripes. In 1999, Johnny Lightning did their excellent '68 Camaro in green as well, with the white stripes. Red-stripe tires in rubber make it even better. Ertl produced a beautiful '70 Camaro, complete with opening hood and trunk. Several years ago they offered it as Cooter's car from 'The Dukes of Hazzard' series and it came in green with a single white stripe. I have no idea if it actually represents a car used in the show. Now, Jada has just released a '69 Camaro in a lovely metallic green with the same white stripe. Sure the tires give this model the urbanized treatment but you have to like that glorious green.

Four recent Camaro models from 1969-71, all in green with white stripes, How could I resist? Is this now the signature color combination for early Camaro models? Are there more examples out there? Is this like Mustangs in white with blue stripes? How about yellow Corvettes? Some cars just look good in certain colors and as far as I'm concerned, more
green and white Camaro model would be just fine.
