Highlighting HiToys |
Diecast brands from the past often bring simple pleasure and, on occasion, mystery. There is such a brand with no apparent branch in the diecast family tree, a missing link in the science of diecast archeology. Some of the castings resemble counterparts from popular brands, however, on appearance bear an original touch. The models were manufactured in Hong Kong and were mounted with a metal chassis. HiToys is identified in a very stylized manner. In some cases, the simple detailing on castings appear hand painted and nearly evoking primitive art. The wheel design is one of the most unique in small-scale with silver hubbed wheels slightly pressed to form four thickened spokes. A thin wire axle is utilized for speed. Two known models from the "100" series are the No.101 (Honda) F1 Racer and No.107 (Porsche Carrera 6). We are aware of the following "200" series which is comprised of the No.203 (Chaparral A23), No.204 (Feathered Duster 1) based on a custom, No.205 (Pontiac S-Cirrus) a 1969 concept car, No.207 (Alfa Romeo) and No.208 (Uno Ferrari). We discovered the following examples a few years ago and consider them to be some of the most unusual small-scale diecast. Collectors can search for other brands from the past in "Diecast Motor Vehicles" which will be available soon as a second edition.
