Hot Wheels and the MOPAR Muscle Rainbow
by Doug Breithaupt

All the recent colors offered on Hot Wheels' MOPAR muscle cars reminded me of the famous ad photo of 1970 shown below. Plymouth had a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda funny car painted in 25 different color choices available in that year. These included groovy names like In-Violet, Tor-Red, Lemon Twist, Limelight, Vitamin C Orange and Moulin Rouge. Hot Wheels has been producing MOPAR muscle cars from their first models of 1967 to the Challenger concept, new for 2007. The 1967 Custom Barracuda is below, far right. I picked a sampling of the many colored Dodge and Plymouth models done by Hot Wheels for the toy car rainbow below. I've even included the 2006 Challenger concept and Hot Wheels' design study for a modern Hemi 'Cuda, the Rapid Transit. Perhaps I should try to find 25 models in the same colors as the picture.
