Majorette 1965-1980 - The Big Picture
By Doug Breithaupt

Thanks to Henri Kroeze (visit his site at: http://www.tinytoycars.com/), this big picture of my Majorette collection is possible. Henri Kroeze was kind enough to provide a copy of the book shown here, Les Miniatures Majorette de 1975 a 1980 by Marc-Olivier Martinez - 2005. This wonderful book is full of pictures of Majorette models. While it is mostly in French, with a few English captions, the images are in my favorite universal language - toy car. Being fluent in 'toy car' and having basic skills in French, I was able to expand my understanding of the history of Majorette and Rail Route, the earlier name for this famous French company. My French is not good enough to understand why this book ends at 1980. Perhaps that is when Majorette began moving their factory production from France to Asia. Perhaps it simply sets the stage for volume two. I hope so.

Using the book, I pulled out all the models in my collection that are included in the 1965-1980 period. Since I do not as a rule collect many trucks, my collection has focused on the cars produced by Majorette. I have color duplicates for many but I only add these when they are available through trades or found for a good price at toy shows. The packaged models have been added from toy shows and are displayed in my vintage Majorette 'tree' rotating rack. I was able to buy the rack when a local toy store could no longer get Majorette models and had no use of it. The packages shown here would have been opened if they had models not already in my collection but as they are just duplicates or color variations, I leave them packaged for my display rack.
